Wrath of le Tour 2015 - done and dusted

The Tour de France is done and dusted and Chris Froome reigned supreme. The final margin of victory was less than expected, due mainly to the fighting spirit of Nairo Quintana. The fact that he already has finished 2nd at le tour may have made the race all the better.

The fantasy cycling competition is the closest I can remember... (I don't remember the scores of the rest) Drugs over talent managed by Matt Kurke made a late surge in points to take the win over Team Rush-more managed by Ryan Buus with Les Têtards managed by Charlie Sawyer very close to the second spot.

Podium for the overall competition:
1 - Drugs over talent - Matt Kurke - 6426
2 - Team Rush-more - Ryan Buus - 6322
3 - Les Têtards - Charlie Sawyer - 6305

It is odd to see Matt Kurke at the top for a change - cough, cough, SPANDEX tour, cough, cough.

The biggest mover on the last day of racing due to their excellent overall pick is Dufresne, Party of Nine managed by Alex Kurt. He came to within 218 points of the win, but may have been just one stage short.

MOTO MAN lead by Justin Rath was the lanterne rouge this year. There was a bit of doubt but as soon as the roads turned up luck was not on his side. I have a feeling this won't diminish the fire that burns inside him for fantasy cycling cycling competitions.

Here are all kinds of results for you. More pointless analysis in the future if time allows. In the meantime start studying up to pick your riders for a fantasy Vuelta a España competition at the end of August! http://www.steephill.tv/vuelta-a-espana/

Building Excitement... Stage 18 and 19 results

The last two days of racing have been excellent. Riders are flying down mountains. A full fledged "stem vs. chain watching" discussion going on regarding Nibali's attack today. The week three folks have come into form. Early favorites are lighting the racing up! Personally I enjoy Quintana's attacking words and riding. This could have just been a Froome lead tour through the Alps. Instead there is whining, complaining, and excellent racing.

Fantasy cycling is as hot as ever too! Stage 19 specifically might be telling of what might come when the final results are tallied. Les Têtards, managed by Charlie Sawyer, picked the podium today. With 110k of riding of which 42k will be going up hill, tomorrow could be classic Tour de France racing.

The beginning of the end? Stage 10 results

It was a great day to be Alex. Mr. Kurt and Mr. Hooke both have Froome and Quintana on their rosters to storm the podium. Dufresne, Party of Nine managed by Alex Kurt had three of the top four finishers today. Even more impressively Mr. Kurt has four riders in the top ten overall. He is currently the team to beat after the first mountain stage.

Six total teams have Froome on their rosters, but four made excellent second picks to set them above the rest. With a single rider in the driver's seat this could either open things up or lead to a tour of the mountains with Froome as our guide. Let's hope things open up and attacks start flying from all directions over the next two weeks.

Here are results. How did your team manage going up hill?

Stage 10 Podium
1 - Dufresne, Party of Nine - Alex Kurt - 396

The roads tilt up - Stage 8 results

A bum knee won't keep her down! Nibali Me This, lead by Bethany Buus, had riders 2, 3 and 4 on the finish today to take the stage win and overall lead. Also with a great pick for the day, Drugs over talent, lead by Matt Kurke, picked the winner for the stage.

Tomorrow should bring changes to the overall classification. The team time trial is difficult. Team Sky should do well to keep Froome in the lead, but they had a poor showing at the Critérium du Dauphiné in a similar time trial.

My pick for yellow after tomorrow is Tejay Van Garderen. BMC has looked strong and has a knack for the TTT discipline. He might be the first American in yellow since 2006 (that wasn't caught for cheating...)

Here are the stage and overall results:

Stage 8 Podium

2 - Drugs over talent - Matt Kurke - 238
3 - Team Rush-more - Ryan Buus - 201

Last sprint for a while. Stage 7 results

Those with some "Cav in their Dish" like days like today. The sprint king from the recent years is back on a stage that didn't perfectly suit him. Now the big question is if the teams that did well today have their riders hang on for the whole tour. Should be interesting.

More shake ups at the top. Five teams are within 100 points of the lead. What happens with the hillier and mountainous route will be determined in the near future. Those who picked Froome are sitting in pole position while others will be chasing points.

My prediction for stage 8 is the Valverde/D.Martin/Sagan/J.Rod type. My super outsider picks are Bakelants/Fuglsang/Costa. It will be a great finish nonetheless.

Here are results from today.

2015 Wrath of le Tour Stage 6 Results

Another day and another big name hits the deck.

The last 800m of today's stage was an unfortunately special moment. I am reminded these guys are tougher than the rest of us with each race I watch. The crashes over the last few stages have been tough to watch.

The fantasy cycling has been something special too this year - just not as tough... Without clear cut favorites, the fantasy cyclists are all neck and neck. Here are results from today:

Results overload.

The Tour de France is off to an excellent start. The stages have been exciting and the racing very fast. The fantasy cyclist competition has been just the same. There have been four different stage winners and 9 of 12 teams on the podium at least once already.  Only 396 points separate first from last so don't be down if you are lower than you hoped after five stages.

The reigning champ is back at it

The teams are starting to roll in!

One of the first three entrants for the 2015 edition is last year's champion Lizzy Sander (@lizzysander). She lead from start to finish and is eager to repeat the feat. If my memory serves, there has never been a back to back champion in the Rath or Wrath of le tour cycling competition. She took her knocks early as a fantasy cyclist, but has since risen to the pinnacle of the league.

Check out last years coverage to see what you'll be missing if you don't get your team in!! 2014 Wrath of le Tour final results.

2015 Wrath of le Tour

Get your teams in for the best free fantasy cycling event of the year hosted by @fantasycyclist.

The tour is coming. Get excited folks. While everyone in the U S of A will be relaxing with family and friends, France and the city of Utrecht have other plans. So did this guy:
Le Tour Utrecht - BON VOYAGE!

Rules are here

The best cyclist in the world are starting their trip to Paris on Saturday. Submit your teams as soon as possible. If you are traveling or have some other great reason not to be able to get your team in that is OK. The competition does not have a hard deadline, but cheating is not looked upon very kindly.

See you on the fantasy cycling circuit.

Fantasy Giro?!?

Get excited. Spring is here and so is the Giro!!!!!

I'm swamped so won't be spending the amount of time needed to rank riders and organize a super awesome fantasy Giro this year. I will score a free-for-all picks league though.

Pick your favorite 9 riders for the overall, stage wins and the sprints. The goal is to score lots of points.

Scoring grid can be found here: Wrath of the Giro daily and overall scoring

Find your riders here: ProCyclingStats
We are not going to score the Stage 1 TTT to make things easier.

Submit your team here: Wrath of the Giro 2015 team submission

The Giro starts today (in Italy) so giddy up! Have your picks in ASAP. We will use the honor system to weed out any cheaters. Winners get respect and bragging rights unless someone awesome donates a prize to the league.

May the maglia rosa be on your side!
